Self-published and printed by Watten while still a student at the University of Iowa Writer's Workshop, RADIO DAY IN SOMA CITY appeared the same year Watten's THIS MAGAZINE, in which fellow-editor Robert Grenier wrote the words that created the philosophical underpinnings of the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E movement: "I HATE SPEECH." Inscribed on the colophon "For Darrell," likely Darrell Gray, publisher of the Iowa City mimeo SUCTION and "chief spokesperson" of the Iowa City Actualism scene. Rare. Station, NY: Smoke-In Central, 1985. First Edition. Good.. Now-iconic cult poster from this 1985 DC "Rally Against Reefer Madness," a protest against Reagan-era "Just Say No" drug enforcement. Executed in a underground comix style by Dana Franzen, the poster features Reagan looming over vingettes of police brutality, DEA agents menacing hippie children, and Nancy Reagan riding a pig while chasing a diverse cast of partakers. A powerful work of pro-legalization propoganda. "Stop the Witchhunt!" Full-color offset poster measuring 23" x 17" approx. Good condition only. Staining to verso and tape reinforcements to to center fold. Creasing, tack holes. Worn but still bold and striking.

From the prolific American graffiti writer known, among other psuedonyms, as Read, The Reader, Read More, Read More Books, Boans, etc., this boastful (but accurate) statement done in flat black spray paint on the verso of a fiberglass "No Trespassing" sign, liberated by the artist from an abandoned building, no doubt during his illicit activities. 12.5'' x 18.5''. Mixed media assemblage. Spray paint on fiberglass in welded steel frame.
