The blue and cream dust-jacket is in 3 pieces and the spine piece is mostly missing, now secured inside a clear protective cover. Book bound with grey cloth over the spine with silver titles and blue cloth covered boards, clean bright and square. Small neat ink inscription to the front end paper thereafter pages unmarked, smooth and clean, as new.

A little sunned around the edges but remaining neat and square. Internally unmarked, no inscriptions, hinge tight, a few light spots to the end papers otherwise pages smooth and clean, appearing unread. No dust-jacket.

Book bound in black leather with gilt title on the spine. Neat ink inscription to front end paper, thereafter pages smooth, clean, unmarked, appearing unread. Original full leather binding, 5 raised bands with gilt title on red leather title plate on the spine, faded gilt decorations in compartments. Rubbed, worn at edges, top layer of leather rubbed away at top corner but remaining neat and robust. Hinge and text block tight. Inked contemporaneous name written on the top of the title age. Pages remarkably smooth clean and clear of foxing, text still clear. An ancient fly pressed in at page 114 and I cannot bring myself to remove it from it's final resting place (!).

Girard & A Boitte Editeurs Paris" printed in gilt at the base of the spine. Fourteen volumes identically bound in red cloth with 5 raised bands alongs spines with gilt titles and decorations. Linear decorations to front and rear boards. Hinges all tight, marbled end papers. Pages smooth and clean, lightly ageg-toned, abundantly illustrated throughout with gravures (with a table of gravures at the rear of each volume). A beautiful, very well preserved set. Coloured frontispiece illustration entitled "The Departure". One or two smudges to pages, but generally smooth and clean, no spotting or foxing. Several pages of publisher advertising at the rear. A very good, neat copy.
