The Limited Edition of 200 copies, with all six of the etchings from the Hawaii series (Nos 277-282 in the catalogue) signed in pencil and numbered 108-200 in pencil and laid into the book loose, as issued (NOTE: per the note at the end of the book, the regular edition was bound in blue cloth, and had an unsigned copy of Red Eclipse II laid in. Note also that all copies of this book, whether from the limited or regular edition, or characterized as folio or quarto, are the same size, 12 5/8 x 9 3/4 inches. Having examined several copies of the regular edition, which is sometimes described as being signed in felt tip pen by Peterdi on the blue cloth cover, it is my opinion that these signatures are in fact printed facsimiles). Pierce, Danny. GALLOPING HORSES. Color woodcut, 1956. Edition of 10, Titled, numbered 5/10, and signed and dated in pencil. 11 1/2 x 20 inches (image), 15 1/8 x 22 1/2 inches (sheet). In excellent condition.Danny Pierce (1920-2014)was a book artist who produced books entirely on his own; "he writes the text, handsets the type, cuts the blocks, handprints editions of 25 to 100 copies, and constructs specially designed boxes for each volume, creating works with a deep, personal quality." (Preface to "Danny: 36 years at the Red Door Studio," a 1995 exhibition at the University of Wisconsin). He was also a printmaker. He taught book arts and printmaking at the University of Alaska and the University of Wisconsin.

WOOD WORK. FOLDING GAME BOARD. Stained and painted woods, with metal hinges and clasp. American, 19th century. 15 x 15 x 1 3/8 inches, opened, 15 x 7 7/8 x 2 3/4 inches, closed. Chess/checker board of inlaid squares of light and dark woods, on the outside, backgammon board of inlaid light and dark woods inside. Very well crafted, and in fine condition.

In excellent condition. Provenance: The Philip and Suzanne Schiller Collection of American Social Commentary Art, 1930 - 1970, Highland Park, Illinois.This is one of several early lithographs with satirical and political themes which Alberts did in the 1930s.

Original photograph, not dated. 13 3/4 x 16 1/2 inches, flush mounted except for a 1/2 inch margin at the bottom bearing the title and signed in pencil. Inscribed "May L. Wolcott/319 W. 18th St/New York, NY," on the mount, verso. In excellent condition. Burton and May Wolcott were very accomplished amateur photographers who lived in New York City and Vermont. They were members of The Camera Club, New York (Stieglitz had once been a member) and of the Southern Vermont Art Center, and regularly participated in exhibitions of both organizations. Subjects are mostly New York City urban scenes and New England landscape.

Inexcellent condition.In very good condition except that the paper, originally green, has faded to tan where the work was exposed to light; thus there is a margin in green and the verso of the sheet is green. Alonso is known for his paintings, drawings, and prints. Early in his career he was a Social Realist, but his later work is more closely associated with the New Realist movement.

Mitchell, Gen. Billy. (Mitchell, Gen. Billy). GENERAL BILLY MITCHELL - SIGNED AND INSCRIBED PHOTO DATED JANUARY, 1926 by an unknown photographer. A portrait photograph of the General in full uniform, inscribed "To President Lewis of my Alma Mater with the regards and admiration of Wm. Mitchell Jan. 1926." William Mather Lewis was President of George Washington University from 1923 to 1927. Mitchell resigned from the Army on February 1, 1926, after being found guilty of insubordination by a Court Martial, the charges arising from his allegations of incompetence against Army and Navy Officers who disagreed with his views about the importance of air power in warfare. This is one of a series of photos all apparently taken at the same sitting, all in the same uniform and pose, some with Mitchell wearing his hat, some without. 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches (image), 14 x 10 3/4 inches (sheet). In very good condition with some discoloration to the verso.
