Siblings Jack and Nancy live near the seaside, and can see ships sailing by from their bedroom window. Sailors tell them tales of tropical foreign lands, and they dream of visiting them some day. On a cliff walk one windy day, their father's green umbrella carries them off for an unbelievable adventure! Absolutely lovely story 270 x 215 mm (10¾ x 8½ inches).

Nice: EDQ, 1973. First edition. Hardback in red cloth, inside original unclipped dust jacket. Book and dust jacket are both in very good / fine condition. 285 x 225 mm (11¼ x 8¾ inches). With an introduction by Samuel Beckett, this fascinating collection of Edward Quinn's mostly b/w photography uses the same reportage style as Joyce himself often adopted. Rambling around Dublin from dawn to dusk Quinn found himself collecting what Joyce referred to as epiphanies. Not the literary kind, but photographic incidents of daily life and atmospheric places in Ireland's capital city.

Amsterdam: P. Fouquet Jnr, 1760. Copper engraved etching of old Amsterdam. The Jan Roodenpoortstoren was a building on the corner of Singel and Torensteeg in the centre of Amsterdam. Sadly, the tower was demolished in 1829 due to its neglected state. Image size: 255 x 330 mm (10 x 13 inches). Total item size: 440 x 360 mm. In a very good condition. On heavy watermarked paper. Sold without frame. Nice deep impression, with small rust mark to bottom (not effecting the image). Top of item has been cut quite close (possible to limit a tear). Slight water stain to bottom right (again not effecting the image). A few small closed tears to very edges. Delineator: Jan de Beijer. Engraved by Paul van Liender.

Liège: Imp. Bénard S.A,, 1930. A paper game of 63 numbered squares, spiral, anti-clockwise, centripetal, advertising margarine produced by the company 'Solo' founded in 1929 in Belgium. French version. On the left the rules of the game. In the centre the inscription: 'To the fruits of our colony'. There are quite a few nicks and closed tears to the edges, most are now repaired with archival tape. A touch of darkening to the paper. Jeu de L'oie or Het Gasspel, a kind of goose game, but a colourful piece of Belgian advertising for Sola Margarine. Circa 1930. 460 by 640mm (18 by 25¼ inches). The Game of the Goose or Jeu de l'oie is a type of board game where two or more players move pieces around a track by rolling a die or two dice. The aim of the game is to reach square number sixty-three before any of the other players, while avoiding obstacles. Large colour printed sheet, has a little light creasing, blank to verso.

These camps were very popular in the 1950s. Edge wear and very small closed tears to creases where poster has been folded. Slight darkening to verso. 845 x 640 mm (33¼ x 25¼ inches). . Rare. Affiche originale de la Confédération des oeuvres laïques de vacances d'enfants et d'adolescents annonçant la vente de timbres au profit de leurs colonies de vacances. Both of the wrappers are in good, sound condition, with a little fading to the top edge only. Slight water staining to the bottom part of the spine. No chips or tears. Cream cloth is in good, clean condition. Internally clean and tidy throughout - nice copies. xxv, 1-321,. 166 pages. Vol I. includes 16 full page colour plates. Vol II gives 242 images of Crome's work, portrayed in sepia. 290 x 220 mm (11½ x 8¾ inches).

Original brown blind stamped buckram with gilt titles to spine. Yellow end papers. Small bookseller's embossed stamp to the half title. (George Gardham of Beverley). Two folding hand coloured maps of the relevant parts of Africa.. The buckram is a little faded and rubbed to the edge. There is a little chipping to the head and tail of the spine with slight loss. A split to the board has been repaired. A closed tear to the half title page has been neatly repaired. The maps are in very nice clean condition. xxvii, 529. pp

Complete with six plates - five portraits (including frontis) and one view. Boards are very worn, and the front board is almost detached. Previous owner's name to half title. Only very light foxing. Pairs: Dubochet, Le Chevalier, 1846. First edition in original cloth. A very nice example of this work, with 32 full page illustrations by Grandville and numerous (200) vignettes in the text. Cloth decorated with gilt detail, titles and decoration. Front design (an armourial crest) is also coloured in red and blue. Good condition, with just a little handing and fading to the boards. No significant damage. Yellow end papers. Pages a clean, with a little foxing / darkening only. Overall a very nice example. All edges gilt. Tissue guards over the full page engravings. Louis Reybaud (1799-1879), a French economist, journalist, man of letters and politician. This work is a satirical novel, "One of the best productions of Grandville" (Carteret).
