Very Good. 2 p. handwritten letter on recto and verso of first leaf of a bifolium which was then folded to form a letter with the address and postmarking in the center of the verso of the second leaf. Single sheet (41 cm x 27 cm) folded to form two leaves. Red circular postmark only partly readable. Seal not preserved. Letter closely and legibly written by Bradford. Online information identifies Colonel Craig as having been an officer in a Virginia regiment in the War of 1812, and a surveyor in Augusta County, Virginia, before he claimed several hundred acres of land in New Madrid, a few miles from ''Old Chariton." He was appointed by the Missouri Legislature in 1820 to help select the location for the county seat of Chariton County. Bradford is seeking his counsel about the Missouri property of his son who appears to have been dead for some time. I have been appointed by the Alumni Association to prepare the memorial volumes, containing the lives of those alumni who have fallen in the war. Will you be kind enough to tell me how far you have gone, in each case, in preparing these lives, & whether you, or any one else to your knowledge, has done the preliminary work of collecting the materials, or weaving them into a narrative, & whether I cd. hv. the use of these. The more you can answer me in detail, the better. I can't have too much. Cordially yours T.W. Higginson P.S. My strongest desire is to illustrate the spirit with which these young men entered the war, & this must be done chiefly from private memorials." Very Good. Brief one-page letter agreeing to serve on the Audubon Artists committee on admissions. Handwritten in brown ink on one side of plain sheet. 28 cm. 2 vertical and 1 horizontal folds, probably for mailing in a small envelope. Text of letter:. "Dear Ms. Wengenroth - Thank you for your letter. I shall be happy to serve on the Audubon Artists Committee on Admissions. Sincerely Ellen Key-Oberg." Alabama-born sculptor who studied art at the Cooper Union Art School and later at the Art Students League.

Dr. Gregg, a minister and former President of Daniel Payne College in Birmingham, Alabama, is identified on the title-page as Historiographer of the AME Church.

Portions of this book are generally thought to have been written by her husband.

The leaflet includes color photos of three works, a black and white photo of the artist, and a description (written by Heldman) of the author's life and work. It does not include a list of the works exhibited.

First [blank] leaf has a small rectangular piece of wood attached by thin wire next to an ink inscription: "To Barclay Fleming at Lincoln's Tomb April 29, 1925. accompanying a piece of wood from Lincoln's Springfield home. Embossed stamp ("H. W. Fay Custodian Lincoln's Tomb Springfield. Illinois") at top of the leaf OCLC has an entry for a 1924 edition of this oft-reprinted pamphlet which is described as having "a piece of wood (in pocket). We assume that those pieces were also from Lincoln's home. Fay must have also dispensed copies, such as this one, with a piece of wood from Lincoln's home attached by wire to selected visitors. In this case, [Joseph] Barclay Fleming, 1881-1970, was an important Scottish-born Chicago lawyer who served for many years as President of the Chicago Public Library Board.
