The corners have bronze-colored metal protectors. Errors are all present, (p.186 line 16) doctors. (p.196 line 13) conversation (p.202 line 12) explaininn ( nn not ng). Both top and bottom of the spine weaken but no rips/fraying, gift inscription not by the author on the 1st leaf. The book is tight and square, really nice to be 95 years old. It just has the stupidest cover designs.

VERY LITTLE RUBBING TO THE COVERS, BOOK IS VERY TIGH, CLEAN AND SQUARE. oNLY FLAWS ARE THE CHIPPING TO THE DJ AS SEEN IN THE PHOTOS.collectors love long inscriptions, shows more of the author's handwriting.THERE IS NO DOUBT THIS IS THE AUTHOR'S HANDWRITING.

Blue and Black, still crackles when opening. Signed on 2nd leaf signature only could be removed and used with another title you like more, nice signature. Book has a MO on the top edge and bruised spine ends. DJ has a "signed copy" sticker(removable) little wrinkling spine ends.

Dark Blue hard cloth with silver lettering(all intact) Bruised spine ends with a touch of rubbing. Unread tightness, very square, and very clean with no marks. The DJ has minor wear with small chips corners and spine ends, light soiling, price intact. 1st state DJ.

A very light bruise top spine, one very small spot of something front lower spine. DJ is clear kind, Slipcase has minor soiling age tone. 1000 on special paper, hand number(copy no 640 Alameda) and hand-signed by the author) with Slipcase, which has the portrait front cover, minor soiling and minor damage top inside(see photo).

RED cloth COVERS WITH GOLD LETTERING, FIRST EDITION, ONLY DEFECT IS THERE IS FOXING TO THE PAGE ENDS. UNREAD TIGHTNESS, SQUARE, BEAUTIFUL COPY. DJ: HAS LIGHT RUBBING, LIGHT CHIPPING/SHELFWEAR.PRICE-CLIPPED, THE SPINE MAY OR MAY NOT BE FADED,BUT I THINK IT WAS DONE THAT WAY FOR BETTER READING OF THE TITLE. SCARCE TITLE IN 1ST EDITION, PULITZER WINNER.

Blue paper boards with gold lettering, stated first edition, signed signature only on the 2nd blank leaf, really nice signature could easily used for a another of his books. Bruised spine ends. DJ has a sticker on front "Signed Copy". Thicker page so it is a tipped in signature. Reason Near Fine is in case I miss something.

Special edition to celebrate the merger of Doubleday and Doran Publishing houses. It is signed by Fred N. Doubleday(author and Publisher) George H. Doran(author and Publisher) and Booth Tarkington(author). Rare for the 2 publishers signatures and nice they are. The covers are soiled but inside is Near Fine.

EX-LIB WITH ALL THE DEFECTS INCLUDING BLIND STAMP MAIN TITLE PAGE. Green cloth with gold lettering, heavily sunned spine with the label, top spine fraying, cheap glue staining inside the front and back covers. The numbered 62 pages are very clean straight except 53. Stated First Printing. The book pocket was removed but would have looked better to have left it in. To me, it is a gap-filler/1st printing but it is rare 1937, not 1938. The other 1937 has a DJ so buy it, if not listed then this true 1st.

REDDISH-BROWN CLOTH WITH SILVER LETTERING AND A ORANGISH SQUARE DESIGN ON THE SPINE. Very minor fading to covers in spots. Unread tightness, very clean, and very square, light bruising to the spine ends. DJ has edge chipping and minor soil, tears, price intact, his Pulitzer Prize winning book of poems comes with this if it is still available.

PURPLE WITH BLACK AND COPPER LETTERING, A TOUCH OF FADE TOP EDGE, AND A TOUCH OF AGE TONING TO THE PAGE EDGES ONLY(SEE PHOTOS). UNREAD TIGHTNESS, VERY CLEAN NO MARKINGS, AND SQUARE. Most would rate this Near Fine.DJ: price intact. Light soiling, light rubbing. A lot of people mistake the spine as being sunned(faded) when they are not, the seashells go from a darker color to a lighter color(right to left) but if you check the dark colors at the top they are the same. There is shelfwear to the edges with the top of the spine wrinkling(folded).
