GREEN FOLD-IN COVER WITH WHITE LETTERING BUT HAS A RUBBED AREA ABOVE THE WHITE LETTERING ABOUT 1 X 2 INCHES, RUBBING ALONG THE EDGES. The White covers of the book are very clean and square and unread, there is spine damage like curved inward at the top part(see photos).This is the very First Edition no mention of other signed editions like the Franklin Library.

The book is not BCE but the Stated FIRST EDITION with no blind stamp rear board, but the Dustjacket is a NEWER BCE(almost new). Book has corner protectors(metal), slight fading here and there, gray paper covered boards, with aqua-green cloth spine with silver lettering, slightly faded. Inside very very clean except 75 in ink top corner 1st leaf, book is unread tightness. A decent copy especially for the price.

Same Text as the 1st printing before the change of plates and corrections around the 5-6th printing. Cheap Gap Filler till you can find one you can afford. See details in the photos.

Part of a Research Professor's(25 books) only Trilogy novels based on facts and time period of the "Negro". Black Ulysses.

THE AMERICAN PAST, BOOK OF THE MONTH CLUB,NY. RED CLOTH COVERS WITH BLACK BOXES AND GOLD LETTERING AND A RED BOOKMARK RIBBON AND RED CLOTH SLIPCASE WITH OLD TEXAS FLAG LABEL ON THE FRONT. BOOK HAS A TOUCH OF BEING HANDLED/SLID IN AND OUT OF THE SLIPCASE A FEW TIMES,THE COVERS HAVE A VERY FAINT LOOK OF SMALL SPOTS CLOSE TO THE EDGES. THE DJ MADE HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF BROWNING(OR IT CAME THAT WAY),THE SLIPCASE HAS A LITTLE OF THE FAINT SPOTTING ALSO ON THE REAR AND A TOUCH OF SOILING.

PLEASE SEE PHOTOS. 1940 special edition with the pre-printed signatures of the Cast of the movie. It has a few dates like the floating 8 in 1938, light R denotes special run(1st) and the illustrations copyright 1939, but there are none. This might have been the last of the red cloth covers because 1940 was the year the green BCE came out and the other Re-Print Publishers had a release also. And I believe Doran got bought out(or died) that was why Garden City got used to sseparate the monies. WOW a lot this issue had going on.
And it is in such great conition too.

Redish Brown leather like with gilt designs and page ends, I see no defects. See photos for details. This book is included in a collection, but if you gotta have it ok.

Brown spine with off-white boards. I don't see any defects but NF if I miss something. Signed name only 1st title page. The company's 2000 statement of First Edition and year but does not mention its print line which ends with a 2. So it can mean the 2nd printing of a First Edition/2nd Printing as another seller list his as. For this to have been an important book I could only find 3 books with actual photos, the others are STOCK(everybody else using the same front cover. I could not find(so far) any other printings different than this.This one was in the best condition and with signature only at half the price of $445 as of now.

BOTH DJs AND THE BOOK HAVE ALL THE 1ST ISSUE POINTS,STATED FIRST PRINTING,BOTTOM SPINE END LIGHTLY BRUISED,MAYBE A TOUCH OF RUB.LIGHT SSMUDGES TO PAGE ENDS,EXCEPT THE TOP,STAINED RED WITH A SMALL FADE BEGINNING NEAR THE SPINE.THIS DEFECT IS MY FAULT,WHEN I ADDED THE SECOND DJ IT HAD CHEAP TAPE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE MYLAR-I DID NOT REPLACE THE MYLAR AND THERE ARE NOW 4 SMALL TAPE STAINS INSIDE THE COVERS AT THE 1ST AND LAST LEAF. 1ST DJ HAS SHELFWEAR,RUBBING,LIGHT SPINE FADE,LIGHT SOILING,PRICE IS INTACT,BUT THE BOTTOM SPINE AREA HAS A SMALL SQUARE(UNEVEN) ABOUT 3/4 INCH MISSING. 2ND DJ'S MYLAR HAS BEEN REPLACED,VERY MINOR SOILING,LIGHT RUBBING,LIGHT FADE TO SPINE,PRICE INTACT VG OR BETTER.

Red Cloth is just like the other $125 have, but this is the stated Book Club Edition. Bruised spine ends, and the DJ has some small tears but now in Brodart hard to see them now.

RED CLOTH, gold lettering, only defect is back cover light moisture mark marks with minor dj paper(SEE PHOTOS(12). Dj has minor ink smear from moisture. price cut but proof still there(no indent on back cover). 1st issue. Not BCE.

NO INDENT ON REAR COVER(SEE ALL 12 PHOTOS). Only defect is that 1 page was longer than the others seen in photo(bottom edge). Book is unread tightness, very clean and square. DJ: has some rubbing Wrinkle across the bottom front with minor tears, and top back spine area wrinkle/rubbing. minor shelfwear to its edges. Price is intact.
