Full score. 8vo. 10.5 x 7 inches (26.7 x 17.5 cm). 31 pp. [PN] NY 2074. Inscribed by the composer on the title to Peter Smith, then an engineering student working at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center, who had assisted Varèse with some of his early pioneering efforts in electronic music: "au Herr Prof. Peter Smith cordial souvenir Edgard Varèse."  In original gray wrappers, slightly worn and with small stains. Each volume covers four months (from May 1928 to December 1929), but  the magazine was a monthly periodical and each "volume" was made up of four consecutive issues. Many Illustrated articles on very fine antiques. B&W photographs on most pages. Each volume in publisher's black decorated cloth with gilt lettering and ornaments. 9.75 x 12 inches (24.8 x 30.5 cm). Spine binding frayed to head and foot, ex-lib with associated stamps and with associated stamps and cards etc, a few pages loose or torn, otherwise in very good condition.

Stunning original silver gelating Sedge Le Blang photograph of the great African American contralto in her pathbreaking Metropolitan Opera debut as Ulrica, in Verdi's Un ballo in maschera. 8 x 10 inches (20.5 x 25.2 cm). Photographer's stamp on verso with notations, edges slightly worn, overall fine. Anderson was a great favorite of Toscanini and, in 1955, broke the color barrier by becoming the first African-American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera. She remains a legendary figure in the history of opera, remembered for, among other highlights, her Lincoln Memorial concert and her performances at the inaugurations of both Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy.The history of Anderson's Met debut is more complicated than often discussed. Portrait of the British conductor in his later years in profile seated at his desk studying a score.  8.75 x 7.25 inches (22 x 18.2 cm).  Mounted to rigid backing, in fine condition.Sir Thomas Beecham founded both the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1932) and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1949).  He was never happy with being a salaried employee of any orchestra and preferred to gather his own ensembles instead.

Original doubleweight William Claxton photograph of the iconic singer and actress on stage during a performance at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, 1955.  Dietrich is shown wearing one of several "nude" gowns custom designed for her by designer Jean Louis.  Typical photographer's stamp to verso, together with a stamp denoting that this particular print was Claxton's "Private Copy."  In very fine condition.  10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.3 cm.).When Dietrich started performing her cabaret act in 1953, she commissioned the first in a series of gowns from Jean Louis that would serve as her outfit during the opening act of each performance.  "Built over a precisely engineered undergarment, and constructed of the thinnest, flesh-colored silk souffle and usually covered in strategically placed beading, [these dresses] provided both the illusion of a flawless, ageless figure, and an ephemeral but glitteringly sensual glamour."  ("Dietrich in Vegas," Gods and Foolish… Leer más

Used; Like New/Used; Like New. A superb and very rare original photograph from a NYC farewell party given for the great Russian bass at the end of his first U.S. visit. Chaliapin is shown in an apron and chef's hat, holding a plate and spoon aloft, and surrounded by many prominent guests. The week before this photograph was taken, on January 30, 1922, in the Victor studio, Chaliapin made his first American recordings: Varlaam's song and Boris' farewell from Boris Godunov and also Don Basilio's aria from Il Barbiere Di Siviglia. He returned to Moscow in March, but later that year, in June, he emigrated to Paris. 5 x 7 inches (13 x 18 cm).

Scarce original concert flyer for a 1969 concert advertising "The Exciting Tamla-Motown Star" Stevie Wonder, The Foundations "Build Me Up Buttercup," and "America's Glamorous Recording Stars" The Flirtations, appearing at the Odeon Theatre in Manchester on March 19.  The booking form on the lower margin remains completely intact and blank.  An incredible and rare example of 1960s Motown ephemera.  Mild toning throughout, with trifold creasing; overall in fine condition.  5.7 x 11.4 inches (14.5 x 29.8 cm.).

Remarkable original 8 x 10 inch photograph, stamped August 29, 1945, with Newbold Morris, chairman of the board of directors of the City Center, and Mayor of NYC, Fiorello La Guardia. As per newspaper clipping affixed to verso, they are shown "at City Hall Yesterday where the Mayor announced that Bernstein has been appointed music director of the City Center for the 1945-46 season. Small area of in-painting for press publication around the heads, light wear to edges, stamps and clippings on verso, else fine.
