Sobre este artículo
Louisville: Stackhouse Print, 1872. Broadside, 20 x 5 1/4 inches. Minor foxing, several horizontal folds. Very good. A handsomely produced broadside advertising a lottery to raise money to pay for a magnificent Victorian building, recently purchased for $210,000, to house the Public Library of Kentucky, located in Louisville. The library promised to be "open and free to the gratuitous use and enjoyment of all citizens of every State in the union." The lottery consisted of 100,000 lottery tickets to be sold for the chance at one of 1000 prizes to be handed out at the Second Grand Gift Concert, on Saturday, September 28, 1872. The drawing for the tickets was handled by "blind children from 10 to 15 years of age." The engraved view shows the grand, three-story building flying a large American flag, and dozens of people arriving by foot, by horse and carriage, and by horse- drawn streetcar. OCLC only locates one copy, at AAS. Not in Hummel. Rare. OCLC 191285297.
