Beginning on 28 March 1848, entries include the following. "Received of David Jacobs the sum of four hundred Dollars Garden Money of samuel Jacobs Dec'd." A number of entries follow, noting additional sums received from the Samuel Jacobs estate as well as sums given by Michael Burgard. Names include George Jacobs, David Jacobs, Magdalena Jacobs, Catherine Burgard, John J. Burgard, Samuel J. Burgard, Solomon Jacobs, Rachel Burgard [Michael's wife], et al. In April of 1865, the writer notes: "This is what my son Michael S. Burgard received for an Allowance - one Sadel [saddle] and Bridel, $16.00 ... one horse for one hundred Dollars ... one wagon for one hundred and ten dollars ... two Cows for twenty dollars ... one harrow, $7.50 ... 104 pounds of dry pork and 11 pounds of lamb ...." In 1867, son Peter got a saddle and bridle, and a buggy; and two years later, a wagon, horse, two cows, three pigs, a harrow, bed & bedding, a chest, a plow, five sheep, an ax, dry pork, lard, sausage, etc. Meanwhile, in 1857, son John was given similar farm animals and items, along with $2,000 to share with his brother, Samuel, who also received a long list of gifts from father. On pages devoted to his daughters Catherine & Leah, we find Michael paying for various goods purchased by them in nearby Pennsylvania towns: [East] Berlin, Mechanicsburg, Dillsburgh, York, etc. Other expenses include for copper ware, carpentry work, etc.
