New York: Various, 1941. Group of 14 pieces of sheet music by Claude A. 'Bennie' Benjamin (1907 - 1889) Virgin-islands born musician and especially prolific writer & composer of popular tunes - member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1984); this group includes: Cancel the Flowers; When the Lights Go On Again; Rumors are Flying; Oh! What it Seemed to Be; I Don't See Me in Your Eyes Anymore; Confess; To Think You've Chosen Me; Can Anyone Explain?; These Things I Offer You; How Important Can it Be?; Cross Over the Bridge; Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood; Surrender; Wheel of Fortune; (and a later edition of I Don't See Me...); Benjamin worked with Eddie Seiler, Sol Marcus, George Weiss and others; stars portrayed as performing the pieces illustrated on the music include Tommy Tucker, Frankie Carle, Perry Como, Tony Martin, Don Cherry, The Ames Brothers, others; various publishers, dates; some edgewear and pencil marks, names & musical performance annotation; in very good condition and a good overview via the music of the breadth of this writer's work (with) a 1 1/2 page article copied from an (undated, prob. 1970s) Daily News article which gives more background on the writer, noting that he'd performed on the vaudeville circuit as well as appearing at the Cotton Club and other details not found in the Hall of Fame bio; with a list of Bennie Benjamin music titles, notations on the use of these tunes in advertising, or various performers who'd sung the tune - also mention of Johnny Carson appearance & a note regarding a European performance on the same sheet - we speculate these materials had been used for promoting Mr. Benjamin and his work; light wear, in very good condition. .
