The text is illustrated with 60 coloured plates; each plate having biographical details of the artist opposite. Colour illustrated dustjacket (wraparound) with black and white coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the back strip. To celebrate the Australian bicentenary, the author selected 60 works of art. These became the first fully illustrated introduction to the subject. His choice included familiar works and others reproduced for the first time. They were deliberately designed to show the diversity of subject, style and technique evoked by Australia of those artists who had lived and worked in this country. -- front fold over blurb. Rubbing of the book edges with fading to the top edge of the book and a little fading of the lower back strip edge and an inch either side of the back strip. There is a bump to the top edge of the front panel. Light age toning of the text block edges. Creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with a 2 inch tear to the top left hand corner of the front panel. The top edge of the rear panel has tears, measuring approximately half an inch, with associated creasing. Fading of the back strip and to the left hand side of the front panel.
