Sobre este artículo

London: Chapman and Hall, 1874. Standard collected edition. Hardcover. Good to Near Fine. Thomas Carlyle (1795 -1881) was a Scottish essayist, historian, and philosopher from the Scottish Lowlands. A leading writer of the Victorian era, he exerted a profound influence on 19th-century art, literature, and philosophy. Virtually all of his important work was published between the 1820's and the 1860's.
This 35-volume set of Carlyle's works (to 1874) includes the very uncommon General Index to the entire series. The collection specifically includes:

Per the 1874 General Index
1 Sartor Resartus
2-4 The French Revolution (3 vols.)
5 Life of Schiller
6-12 Miscellanies (7 vols)
13 Heroes and Hero-Worship
14 Past and Present
15-19 Cromwell's Letter and Speeches (5 vols.)
20 Latter-Day Pamphlets
21 Life of Sterling
22-31 Frederick the Great (10 vols.)

Volumes in the series beyond the Index
32-33 Translations 1874 (2 vols.)
34 On the Choice of Books nd, 2nd ed. With 22 p. of Publisher's ads in the rear for 1869
35 General Index 1874

All volumes are bound in matching brown cloth with black blind-stamped decorations all around and gilt titles on the spines. All are in good to near fine condition. A few volumes have cracked hinges, with loosened but still intact bindings. Throughout the set there are a few scuffs and minor bumping at the corners and small tears along the edges. (Please see examples in the photos). Several volumes have discreet ink signatures of early (e.g. 1871) owner on the ffep's or title pages. No other marks or damage. Many volumes appear unread, and indeed, some are still uncut.
Overall, an excellent set, attractively bound

Sobre Stanley Louis Remarkable Books (IOBA)

Seller of high quality books and ephemera, emphasizing older and unusual items, such as signed or association copies. I try to offer the kind of books, at fair prices, that appeal to me, hoping that they will appeal to others also.
