This Book is by noted American Author, Emerson Hough and was published in 1909. Hough was best known for writing western stories and historical fiction. The Book deals with the move by American politicians to extend the American national border northward in western Canada to Latitude 54 degrees and 40 minutes. Due to pressure from European Powers and U.S. involvement at the time to extend the southwest borders, the U.S. Government decided to abandon its efforts.
