Half-title foxed, with offsetting to two pages from news clipping laid-in. Small period ownership signature on ffep. First edition. Sir Charles Thomas-Stanford, 1st Baronet (1885-1932), born Charles Thomas, was a British Conservative Party politician from Brighton. He sat in the House of Commons from 1914-1922. Includes a chapter on a finding the ruins of a third century public library -- "a Roman Carnegie." Thomas-Stanford also wrote Leaves from a Madeira Garden. A handsome, stout copy.
