Smith, Senior General Attorney of the Illinois Central Railroad Company, at a meeting of the Western Conference of Railway Counsel, February 13, 1945. Paper covers, 23 pp. Staple bound. In good condition. Grey paper covers with black lettering on front. Covers have a few small nicks and creasing along edges and corners. Light overall aging, fading and soiling to covers aa well. Handwritten correction of a typo on page 3. Otherwise pages are lightly age but unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. Paper discusses in detail Lincoln's life and work as a lawyer advocating on behalf of the Illinois Central Railroad Company at a time when it was undertaking to construct a railroad having a greater mileage than any existing railroad, and the construction and operation of which "inevitably gave rise to litigation presenting new and novel problems of all kinds, problems in the solution of which a lawyer like Lincoln would want to participate.
