Period calf backing pastepaper boards, morocco lettering piece. Interesting German 19th century book of costumes, habitation and manners in the Middle East, Northern Europe and Africa; complete with the original 17 hand-colored plates. This multi- national study included depictions of dress of men and women who were Scottish, Greek, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Patagonian, Russian, Hindu, Siberian, Algerian, and Tibetan, among more. A detailed description for each plate is in the text with observations for the traversed area. Interest for observation of the Oriental lands produced much travel literature in the 19th century. All full-page hand-colored costume and scenic plates are beautifully preserved in fresh colors and impressions.
