Thomas Muir the Younger of Huntershill (1765 - 1799), was a Scottish political reformer and the first political prisoner transported to Australia. Muir was sentenced to 14 years transportation for the the crime of sedition; for campaigning for parliamentary reform and for distributing copies of Thomas Paine's 'The Rights of Man'. His trial became one of the great sensations of the day; he was one of the group known as the 'Scottish Martyrs', who were sentenced in Scotland in 1793-4. 8vo, (3), 160pp, frontispiece by J. Kay with the colophon "Edinbr. Published as the act Directs by J. Robertson 1793". Title and frontis a bit marked, frontis foredge short tears strengthened. Quarter dark brown calf and tan cloth, gilt title. Cloth covers a bit dusty & some spotting. Ferguson 158; C & C, 28; OCLC: 3119131.

The first New York edition of this account of Muir's trial for sedition, a Scottish political reformer and the first political prisoner transported to Australia. Muir was sentenced to 14 years transportation for the the crime of sedition; for campaigning for parliamentary reform and for distributing copies of Thomas Paine's 'The Rights of Man'. The first American edition does not include viii pp in the preliminaries or at the end of the text. OCLC: 25578183. See Libraries Australia ID 68902705 for the 3rd American edition. A notation in Trove states that the 2nd edition includes viii p at the end and in the prelims and "are not present in the first ed., otherwise it is the same setting of type".
