Boards lightly sunned and soiled with bruised corners. Ownership inscription to title page dated 1861; a little scattered foxing & small stain to upper margin p.66. A Very Good copy. Comprehensive summary of the workings and applications of the refracting telescope, including chapters on stands and instructions on setting up. The "Catalogue of Instruments Made by Troughton and Simms" of Fleet Street includes opera glasses, sextants, theodolites, barometers and a host of other optical and mathematical instruments. Scarce.
