AN ACT for completing the Improvement of the Port of Bristol. 1808. 31pp... with... AN ACT to Enable the Bristol Dock Company to borrow a further sum of Money for completing the Improvements of the Port and Harbour of Bristol. 1809. 4pp. Four Acts bound together, full reversed calf, blind-stamped decoration at edges of boards. Morocco lettering piece on front board. Spine rubbed, gilt faded, some splits a front joint. Marbled endpapers, green collector's ownership stamp inside front free endpaper. Bound in at the front is a finely-engraved detailed plan 'Design for Improving the Harbour and Port of Bristol, by Wm. Jessop, Civil Engineer. W. White, Surveyor. Engraved by W. Faden, Charing Cross, 1803. Size of plan 18" x 41", plus margins. Tear of 6" into blank area of map from right edge where bound, not affecting any engraving, repaired neatly on verso with archival tape, green ownership stamp in top corner, obtruding across border, in blank area. The plan shows the River Avon from Rownham Ferry to Hanham Mills, Canal and Feeder, Cumberland Basin, Floating Dock, Floating Basin, River Frome, with dams, New Rope Walk, Pipes, New Sewer, new roads, various mills. Along the river to the East are shown coal works, glass house, lead works, smelting works, brass works. High ground is shown by hachures. Field outlines along the river are shown, with numbers. There are numbers along the river and the Basin. The major part of the city is shown with the Parishes of St. James, St. Michael, St. Philip & St. Jacob, St. Peter, St. Stephen, St. Mary Redcliffe, Temple, St. Philip.
