Hardcover bound in blue cloth with lettering in gilt. The binding is a bit rubbed and bumped. The spine is dulled, and there is a rubbed white spot on the front cover. Early signature of "Lucian St...(?)" on the front flyleaf is dated 1927. Lacks the frontis portrait of Woodrow Wilson, and the gutter between the Half Title and the Title Page is cracked. The rest of the text block and the inner hinges are sound. Endpapers toned and foxed. The text is generally clean. Early (original?) bookseller's ticket at the bottom of the rear flyleaf reads, "The Book Shop, Inc. / 110 S. Greene St. / Greensboro, N.C." Carter Glass (1858-1946) was born in Lynchburg, Virginia and was the Secretary of the Treasury under Woodrow Wilson. Stated First Edition. Inscribed by author on front endpaper: "This book is inscribed to my friend and associate - Russell Winfree with the cordial regards and best wishes of the author. Sincerely, Carter Glass - April 2/27".Book is in Good condition, with front hinge starting, cracking between the last table of contents page and beginning of the introduction. All pages intact. Pages unmarked, bit of yellowing/light foxing in rear endpaper/pastedown. Some light foxing on page fore edges. Cover has minimal edgewear, some foxing present to edges, but hard to see against the navy boards.
Dust jacket is in Fair condition, with edgewear, chipping, open and closed tears (mostly at corners/spine ends). All four jacket flap corners trimmed (but price intact: $3.00). Soil mark on rear corner of jacket near spine. General fading/discoloration. Now in a Brodart dust jacket protector.
Carter Glass was born in Lynchburg, VA and was the Secretary of the Treasury under Woodrow Wilson.
