Boston: Charles Fox, 1848. Fox, born in Roxbury Mass., near the scene of revolutionary excitement, began his nautical career as a cabin boy. After a narrow escape from privateers on a merchant ship, he eventually wound up aboard the 20-gun "Protector" built by Massachusetts for service in the Colonial Navy. He recounts his two cruises in that ship under Capt. Williams, his capture and imprisonment in the Jersey prison ship, his escape in Jamaica, and service in the Colonial Flora. Scarce, not in Smith. The book is notable for its excellent engraved plates. Bound in publisher's blind stamped cloth with gold-decorated backstrip. Some wear to spine ends, a very good copy.. 9 x 16 cm. vi-240 pp. b/w engraved frontispiece and plates.
