First edition thus. 8vo. 188pp. Blue cloth with gold lettering to the spine and gilt-stamped lettering, borders and decorations to the upper board. Frontispiece illustration by Philip Simmonds. Backstrip ends and corner tips a little rubbed, with a little give to the binding and indications of careful plate or sticker removal from the upper board. Free endpapers very lightly toned. A nice crisp copy of this uncommon edition produced for use in schools. A two-page preface accredited to 'R.B.L.' and 'R.B.M.' precedes the stories 'The Red-Headed League', 'The Five Orange Pips', 'The Blue Carbuncle', 'The Speckled Band', 'The Reigate Squires' and 'The Final Problem', followed by a four-page glossary and twenty questions about the stories plus three further general questions about Holmes. Sinopsis

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a collection of twelve stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, featuring his famous detective and illustrated by Sidney Paget. These are the first of the Sherlock Holmes short stories, originally published as single stories in the Strand Magazine from July 1891 to June 1892. The book was published in England on October 14 1892 by George Newnes Ltd and in a US Edition on October 15 by Harper. The initial combined print run was 14,500 copies.
