London: G. Kearsly, 1774. 1st Edition. Leather. 2 vols. 314p; 301p. A set of two hardcover books bound in full leather with gilt-decorated spines and marbled endpapers. Very good condition for their age! The edges are rubbed, and despite small hairline cracks along the spines, the covers are securely attached. Light spotting and scuff marks on boards. Endpapers tanned, light foxing throughout, and plates faded onto facing pages. Otherwise, text unmarked and pages securely bound. Sturdy, attractive 18th-century volumes! Bishop Francois Fenelon's best-known work, here in an obscure translation and illustrated with engraved plates.
