Princeton, New Jersey: Princeton Univ Pr, 1983. 250pp/illus. This one-volume edition is a facsimile of the original 2 volume work published by The Peking Chronicle Press in 1940 and 1941. The paginagion is identical to that of the original edition. Originally a series of articles published in The Peking Chronicle telling the story of a Chinese boy called Wu. The articles began with his birth in Peking early in the 20th century and ended with his marriage. The charm of the storytelling is given added importance because in narrating Wu's life the author also provided a great deal of information about day to day life in Old Peking: the city's festivals, the foods that were eaten, the games that were played.
