New York: Clarence Brooks & Co., late 19th Century. . Color lithograph trade card. 8.1 x 11.6 cm. Slightly trimmed at top and bottom. Likely this one. Text not present. "The scene is hectic and some of theAfrican Americans are having trouble staying on their horses. The caption below reads:―Fox-Hunting in Blackville—Mrs. Johnson is Entitled to the Brush." Clarence Brooks established his varnish business in 1859 as Brooks and Fitzgerald, later Clarence Brooks & Co. In 1881 the firm issued a calendar illustrated with African American caricatures in genre scenes.
