A record of the Harvard Tropical Medicine Expedition. With 9 maps, 476 illustrations, mostly photographs, and 28 text figures. Of particular interest are the sections on Medical and Pathological Investigations, and Medical and Biological Investigations, including infectious diseases. Also observations of the culture, language and economy of the people of the region, agriculture, travel conditions, and slavery. Also sections and chapters on the zoology - birds, mammals, with a chapter on Gorillas, reptiles and amphibians, also the botany, entomology and geology of the region. Notable for the bookplates in each volume of William Bovie whose work led to the development of the electrical surgical scalpel. Edges a little soiled else VG.
