Gollancz, 1936. 1st Edition. Hardcover. VG++/VG++. 1st Edition. 13.2 x 20.5 cm black cloth with gilt stamped titles to the spine, 448pp in original dust jacket with 8/6 net price to the spine. The boards have been well protected by the dust jacket and are clean with firm, sharp corners and the merest hint of shelf-wear. Internally clean and bright and without name, inscription or bookplate. The jacket which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown) is complete with a little fading to the spine and with touch of rubbing to the corners, a couple of short closed tears of under 0.5 cm to the head of the spine and a little creasing to the spine. All in all a very good looking copy of Cary's first African novel drawing on his experiences in the Nigerian Political Service.
