Michael Curtis was editor of the liberal News Chronicle at the age of 34. His opposition to the Suez Invasion led to the paper taking a significant hit in popularity. His attempts to modernize the paper fell afoul of the owners, the Cadbury family, and he resigned in 1957 after three years. He then worked as executive press aide to the Aga Khan, founding the Daily Nation, which played a major role in helping smooth Kenya's transition to independence in 1963. He worked for the Aga Kahn's social welfare institution until his retirement.
