Sobre este artículo

London: John Lane The Bodley Head, 1939 . First edition. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. 9" by 6". None. The first UK edition of this verse play from American modernist poet Archibald MacLeish, following a town's inhabitants during an air raid. The first UK edition of American poet and writer Archibald Macleish's Second World War radio drama, in the publisher's original price clipped dust wrapper.Remarked upon as 'a most timely allegory of the annihilation of Christian idealism' by the dust wrapper, and staged by the BBC, the theme is the 'life and death of a nameless town in Europe' as they await for the arrival of enemy bombers. With the stamp of the 'Council of Education Library' to the front free endpaper, title page, half title, and page 1. No further library markings. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price clipped dust wrapper. Dust wrapper back strip lightly age toned, with small losses to head and tail. Small ink library number to head of rear wrap, and ink marks to front wrap. Library stamp to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Further library stamps to title page, half title, and page 1. Pages otherwise clean and bright. Very Good
