Sobre este artículo
New York: Sidney Janis, 1993. First Edition. Softcover. Fine. Square 12mo 7" - 7. Josef Albers. Unusually scarce in the trade (there being currently only one additional copy available on-line) and in unusually fine condition. Published to showcase an important gallery exhibition held November 18 through December 31, 1993 at the world-famous Sidney Janis Gallery. Penned by Carroll Janis. The exhibition featured the work of Josef Albers from the period 1961-1969 and that was devoted thematically to Albers' 48" x 48" "Homage to the Square." Quite attractively bound in a 9" x 9" (square! duh!) heavy card stock format, white and red lettering over square black label. Inside horizontal flap titled "Albers" holds an Introduction by Sidney Janis' son, Carroll, a listing of 11 oil-on-masonite works, and a silkscreen reproduction of three of those. Included are: (1) "Homage to the Square," 1962, oil-on-masonite, 48" x 48" (yellow, two ochres, brown); (2) "Homage to the Square: departing in yellow," 1965 oil-on-masonite, 48" x 48" (two bright yellows, yellow-gold, light brown)); (3) "Homage to the Square," 1966, oil-on-masonite 48" x 48" (blue-green, gray, brown); (4) "Homage to the Square," 1966 oil-on-masonite 48" x 48" (three grays); (5) "Homage to the Square: Centered 1967" oil-on-masonite 48" x 48" (three reds). The silkscreens are 1962 - yellow, two ochres, brown; 1966 - blue-green, gray, brown; 1967 - three reds. Each is in Fine, essentially As New condition, and is protected by tissue guards. Short artist statements. The silkscreens themselves are 8 1/2" square, and image on each covers a 6 1/2" square. The artist Josef Albers (March 19, 1888 âââ‰â¬Å March 25, 1976) was a Jewish German-born artist and educator, the very first living artist to be given solo shows at both the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Well-known also for teaching at the Bauhaus and at the Black Mountain College in North Carolina. He headed Yale University's Department of Design and became an esteemed, well regarded teach of visual and graphic arts, having become expert in photography, typography, murals and printmaking (Wikipedia).Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
