Washington, D. C: The Scottish Rite Research Society. Very Good with no dust jacket. 2006. First Edition. Hardcover. Scratch on back of binding, ; Albert Pike (1809-1891) became a Mason in 1840 and by 1859 was elected Sovereign Grand Commander of the Scottish Rite's Southern Jurisdiction. His Morals and Dogma was published in 1871 and helped the Order grow. Pike believed the early Masons had intentionally concealed the real meanings and lessons of the symbols deployed in the art of Freemasonry. He never intended this book (his Lectures on Masonic Symbolism) to be published. It was published long after his death and after the deaths of the people who came to own his original manuscripts. The Second Lecture (also included in this book) details Pike's belief that the ideas behind western culture originally came from the East. No previous owner marks. Text and illustrations clean and bright. Book cover bright and clean. Spine very slightly slanted. All corners bumped, very small loss of cloth to bottom right corner. Front board slightly bowed. Very shallow scratch on rear cover. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 190 pages .
