Massively heavy, oversized volume, bound in Imperial octavo format. From the personal library of the noted English historian of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, Professor Peter Morris Green, now of Iowa City, Iowa, 99 years old, nearly blind, but still working, in this case on a new translation and with annotations, of Herodotus, his favorite historian. Stated Second Printing, with corrections, of the 1990 true First Edition. Laid in, too, are several photocopies of reviews of the volume and including some private correspondence thereabout. Green's study is of multiple aspects of the Hellenistic Age, and his intense, readable survey covers the period from 323-30 B.C., from Alexander's Funeral Games to the rise of Rome. As was central to Professor Green's work, his focus is on politics, military history, government, literature, art and mathematics. Green's magnum opus is the sixth in the Hellenistic Culture and Society series. Augmented with black-and-white photographs and illustrations throughout. Green provides also chronology, genealogical tables, and a select bibliography, notes, and index. xxiv [2], [1], 3-970 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
