Texts in Latin, prelims and ads at end in English. Large octavo. Library bound in dark blue buckram with gilt title to spine, otherwise no sign of library marks except a number stamp on verso of last leaf. Rubricated half title with "medieval" style name of Norman Moore (possibly Sir Norman Moore, who along with being a student of medicine was also interested in medieval Ireland) with small repair to verso of page, rubricated Master of Rolls page and rubricated title. Clean and sturdy, some occasional light pencil marginalia but it is neat, mostly in the De laudibus. Neckamr *(1157 – 1217) was an English magnetician, poet, theologian, and writer. He was abbot of Cirencester Abbey from 1213 until his death. In this work is the first European notice of magnetized needles and the first description of the compass. The book is an important look at European science in the 12th century. ; Chronicles and Memorials of Great Britain and Ireland During the Middle Ages; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 521 pages .
