Sobre este artículo
London: Macmillan and Co, 1873. Leather. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". None. A signed copy of this historical work by the author known for 'Tom Brown's School Days'. A signed copy, in a full morocco binding. With the author's inscription 'Sybil Irene Cutler with the best wishes of her Godfather the Author 1873'. This is a New Edition of this work, which is a biography of Alfred the Great. With a frontispiece depicting Great Britain and two plates. Collated, complete. Thomas Hughes was an English lawyer, judge and author. His 'Tom Brown' books are semi-autobiographical, as the first novel 'Tom Brown's School Days' was set at Rugby, where the author attended. Binder's stamp to the verso of front endpaper, Macmillan and Co. Uncommon for there to be a signed copy of this work, especially with such a personal connection to Hughes. In a crushed morocco binding. Externally, generally rubbed. Light rubbing to the joints. Prior owner's inscription to the recto of front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Very Good
