Sobre este artículo
New York: Francis P. Harper, 1901. First edition, limited to 250 copies. Red cloth lettered in gilt, uncut edges, 62 pages. Very well-kept copy, with minimal shelfwear and some minor surface soil, minor bump to spine head, good hinges, firm text block, very clean pages, many of which are unopened at the top and/or outer edges, one page a bit rubbed at the outer edge from being cut a bit longer than the others, no names or other markings. Exceptionally clean copy of this hard-to-find book. One in a series of books written by Tooker in his efforts to preserve Native American history, mainly on Long Island, and primarily focusing on place names. A pharmacist by trade, Tooker eventually came up with 486 place names, many of which appear faithful to the Algonquian, but some which involved use of a bit more imagination. A self-described Algonkinist, Tooker was a pioneer in the ethnohistory of Long Island, and regardless of his critics, laid the foundation for further reseach in this area. He also studied other tribal nations in the northeastern United States, and published ten volumes, each containing his historical findings on a particular portion of these studies. This book is one of those ten volumes, one of only 250 copies printed. . First, Limited Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
