Laid-in is a signed letter from the publisher to the book's original owner, Pulitzer-Winning photojournalist Brian Lanker, who died of pancreatic cancer in March of 2011. One of Lanker's photographs appears in the book, in the chapter on the Mississippi Freedom Fighter Winson Hudson.
