Rowntree on endpaper, good copy. . 12mo [20.5 x 13.5 cm]; xviii, 392, 32 [publisher's catalogue dated November 1869] pp, frontis, 75 illus, index. . 'In Alpine Flowers, his principles of good alpine gardening, in natural conditions in a properly constructed rock garden, preceded Reginald Farrer by thirty-seven years' (Mea Allen in William Robinson). Robinson was the most important garden writer of his period, this being his third book. He describes his journey observing plants and gardens in a 70 page section called A Little Tour in the Alps. He includes lists of plants for different conditions, and describes numerous species throughout the book. A picture of this book is available on request by email.
