Sobre este artículo

Altona: D.W. Friesen, 1982. Hard bound, first edition, aerial maps in colour at endpapers, illustrated throughout in black and white, xi + Pp373. Includes bibliography, glossary, and index. Tight and unmarked - a very good or better copy in like dust jacket. From the blurb on the inside front flap of the jacket: ""This book tells the story of Altona, settled by a small group of pioneers on an original settlement on the prairies in the 1870's. The old Altona Village, which was settled in the 1880's. gradually evolved into a modern town. It is an absorbing story well told. The author has researched her book thoroughly from original as well as secondary sources and supplemented this with oral interviews. The book is well illustrated, and is complete with index, bibliography, glossary, tables, and figures. It is more than a chronological story. Against the background of history, the author has also sketched the struggle of the Mennonite pioneers to maintain their identity, and at the same time adapt to the current and changing conditions of society around them. And in it we also learn what it is to be Canadian and at the same time to be part of a minority group. The book is written for a general audience and in popular style. However, its bibliographic documentation, numerous tables, maps and illustrations increase the book's attractiveness for both the general reader and the scholar of Western Canadian history, religious studies, ethnic minority studies, and of course, Mennonite History. The book is one of the projects of the publishers commemorating their 75th Anniversary. 800 grams - additional postage may be requested for shipment outside the province of Manitoba.
