Very rare set of the longest running magazine of the literary avant-garde in Spain.

All issues with their covers, but lacking issues 19, 20, 22, 30, 31, 31bis, 51 and 60. Total run of 40 issues of total 48 published from March 1922 to September 1927.

The first two issues have a very strong worm attack. Of the rest, only some have scratches on the covers, some has several pages a little foxed, and all of them have the staples with which their pages were sewn rusted. (Let you ask us for more photos if you need them.)

This very appreciate Literary magazine began as a tool to stimulate the market between Galicia, in Northwest Spain, and Southamerica, directed by the honorary consul from Chile in Vigo, Ernesto Cádiz y Vargas. In this phase, its title was Boletín de Casa América-Galicia and were published fifteen issues from December 1920 to February 1922. Then she turned his name to América-Galicia: Revista comercial ilustrada hispano americana.- Órgano de publicidad de "Casa América-Galicia", which began to publish some articles of general interest until August 1922. On September, Julio J. Casal, consul from Uruguay in La Coruña assumed the management of the magazine and he turned magazine name to Revista de Casa América-Galicia and, as he was member of the local cultural group 'La Peña', he opened the pages to literary novelties. In a few months the magazine became one of the champions of Ultraism in Spain with collaborators not only from Galicia, but from all Spain and, quickly from Southamerica. With issue 32 (September 1923), the magazine acquired his last and famous name, Alfar, maintaining the previous as subtitle.

By that time, its pages had already offered poems by Gabriela Mistral, Juana de Ibarbourou, Manuel Abril, Roberto A. Ortelli, Francisco Luis Bernárdez, Julio Yordi, Norah Lange and illustrations from Norah Borges. And in the following five years we can found texts by Gómez de la Serna, Borges, Rivas Cheriff, Machado, Yordi, Alberti, Jarnés, González Ruano, Vallejo, Huidobro, Guillén, Gerardo Diego, etc., which appeared here for the first time.

Alfar had became a collection of first editions by a lot of the greatest writers (man and woman) in Spanish from both Atlantic sides, and always taking care of both, design and typography.
We have not found so large run in any library. In fact, for the facsimile edition made years ago, their promoters had to obtain them from several different libraries.

SPANISH LANGUAGE FIRST EDITION. PARA NACER HE NACIDO. Circulo de Lectores, Bogota, Columbia. Copyright 1978, published 1979. PABLO NERUDA. Para nacer he nacido (To Be Born). Used. Good- Condition/ No dj included. Please see stock photo for typical condition. "Pablo Neruda is one of the most influential and widely read 20th-century poets of the Americas. "No writer of world renown is perhaps so little known to North Americans as Chilean poet Pablo Neruda," observed New York Times Book Reviewcritic Selden Rodman. Numerous critics have praised Neruda as the greatest poet writing in the Spanish language during his lifetime. John Leonard in the New York Times declared that Neruda "was, I think, one of the great ones, a Whitman of the South." Among contemporary readers in the United States, he is largely remembered for his odes and love poems."
