First Trianon Edition. Limited issue, numbered 338 of 480 copies (526 in total). Fully and beautifully illustrated with 18 full-page color plates, facsimile reproductions of the original illuminated pages from 1887, (printed for The William Blake Trust from trustee Paul Mellon's original volume). Printed on Arches pure rag paper made to match that used by Blake, with each page watermarked with Blake's monogram. Just about fine in original dark blue quarter-morocco over marbled paper. Presented in publisher's matching near fine marbled paper slipcase. Mild spotting to end sheets and slightest edge wear. ''America' was the first of Blake's books to name a place (Lambeth) in the imprint. which was an act of defiant courage. for the first time he designated one of his books as 'a prophecy,' he concentrated particularly on the dramatic events in Boston. Blake continued his tale in Europe and then to make the cycle of continents complete he wrote 'Africa' and 'Asia' giving a general title of all four of his masterworks: The Song of Los.' (Damon, Blake Dictionary). Folio. 10.75 x 14.5 in. An amazing copy of this seminal work by Blake.
