Sobre este artículo

London: Vizetelly & Co.. Good+ with No dust jacket as issued. 1883. Fourth Edition. Hardcover. London: Vizetelly & Co., 1883. Fourth Edition. Lg 8vo. xii,548 pages. Original red cloth stamped in black and gilt, gilt scene on front cover of 6 black men sort of lined up as top hatted Sala enters along with another gentleman in what could be a hotel lobby. Cloth lightly-moderately soiled, spine faded, corners bumped, one corner has brief loss, endpaper bit foxed, minor spots, few short tears, small hole in blank. Illustrated with nearly 400 engravings. Sala first went to the United States in 1863. During his four and a half months in the States, he travelled 20,000 miles. From the Preface to the First Edition: "My heart was with the South because I came on my mother's side of a West Indian family - and a slave-owning family - ruined by the Abolition of Slavery in the British Colonies; and although I know perfectly well that I was altogether wrong in what I wrote politically concerning 'America in the Midst of War,' my heart is still in the South." Account of Sala's second visit, which he began on Nov. 23, 1879. Charles Dickens published some of his early articles and stories in Household Words; by 1857 Sala became a contributor to the Daily Telegraph. He was a colorful character in word and deed. The reader will journey with him to New York, Richmond, Atlanta, New Orleans, Chicago (and Stockyards), San Francisco, Salt Lake City (and Mormons), and other places. ; About 400 engravings; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 548 pages .
