Washington, DC: Judd & Detweiler, 1895. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, from cloth boards decorated in gilt and black. Exterior shows edge and corner wear which also includes the upper and lower spine edges. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues other than some small cracks to the color at the rear board. Text pages are very tight. Paper is toned due to age and some minor foxing and spotting is present. Page 40/41 has a rectangular spot that tanned the paper. This is because it once was where the original reference sheet sat that came along with the book, which is very uncommon to be still present. Some pages shows light spotting and staining but only on a few. Previous owners name written in pencil on both pastedowns and front end page (Chas R. Murphy. Second and page has it written in pen. This same page has very slight ripple to the bottom edge, possibly from moisture. First edition thus with single date of 1895 appearing on both the title and copyright pages. The reference sheet, entitled "Alphabet Used On American Fonostenografy" has a few small marks on the back or somebody attempted shorthand. This card has been placed in a glassine envelope so it will not react with the pages anymore and will accompany the book.
