Oversize stout 4to volumes. This example with both volumes uniformly bound in a heavy green cloth without any title or decorative design. Presumably recased in the early 20th century by the prior owner. A sturdy recasing with linen lined hingesand heavy marbled paper endsheets. Contents pages according to the entries for the 180 plant species profiled, with each illustrated by a full page chromolithograph plate. The cannabis plate is a larger folding plate. Several pages of text concerning description, history and formulation accompany each of the 180 seperatley pages sections. Includes a 65 page Appendix that includes Glossary, Bibliographic index and General Index with a final leaf of errata. Cloth pulled and lightly frayed at spine ends; rubbed over joints with loss of color over the spots where the binding cords press against the cloth. Usual and expected light toning to page stock edges. Plates uniformly bright and neat; text cleand and unmarked. A standard and important reference, here preserved in sturdy and clean condition in an early recasing. Uncommon in the original edition. VG- thus. ...
