Sobre este artículo
Dutton, 1981. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. Association copy, signed by Wallace Stegner on the half-title page. Laid in is a postcard from Stegner to the book's former owner, William S. Geller, a friend who lived nearby in Redwood City. Geller and his wife, Virginia, were prominent librarians, serving as the head librarians for Los Angeles and Sam Mateo counties respectively, and both served as president of the California Librarians Association. The four-sentence postcard commiserates over bad backs, recalls traveling to Japan together, and is signed, "All best, Wally Stegner." At least one letter from Geller is included among Stegner's papers, and his ownership signature is on the upper corner of the book's front free endpaper. A fine book, folio, in a very good price-clipped dust jacket with the sunning/greening to spine that's typical for this title, but otherwise fine. // Wood (+) River (=) Books specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, and environmental literature, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions.
Sinopsis
"This book is an attempt, by sampling, to say something about how the American people and the American land have interacted, how they have shaped one another; what patterns of life, with what chances of continuity, have arisen out of the confrontations between an unformed society and a virgin continent. Perhaps it is less a book about the American land than some ruminationsabout the making of America. . . . We are the unfinished product of a long becoming." —from American Places

Sobre Rural Hours
Rural Hours (formerly Wood + River = Books, est. 2019) specializes in ecology, natural history, nature writing, the environment, environmental literature, and contemporary essay, with a special passion for association copies and notable inscriptions. We draw our name from the popular-but-then-forgotten book by Susan Fenimore Cooper (published in 1850), generally considered the first work of environmental creative nonfiction by a woman in the U.S. We are interested in challenging and expanding the canon of environmental literature and finding books that tell remarkable stories and illuminate the tradition of writing about place and natural history.
