Sobre este artículo
London: George Virtue, 1840. First edition. Hardcover. Very good overall. Many of the 66 steel engravings are of the Hudson River Valley, such as View From West Point, Crow's Nest from Bull Hill, View From Ruggle's House, Newburgh, Peekskill Landing, and Indian Falls near Cold Spring. There are also plates of Boston (Faneuil Hall), New York (The Ferry at Brooklyn), Washington DC (View of the Capitol), and Catskill Mountain plates. This is arguably Bartlett's most famous work. He visited Canada and the United States repeatedly and the illustrations show many of the principal cities of North America as well as the most famous scenic vistas of the day.
First volume of a two volume set. 4to, 66 steel engraved plates of American scenes, (iv) 140pp, 1 map. Fine American binding, period half brown leather with gilt rules on front cover and gilt title on a black stamped ground. Gilt title on decorative spine with raised bands. Covers are rubbed at edges and at corners. Two different owner signatures at ffep one from St Louis Mo . Howes B209 ("aa"); Abbey 651; Sabin 3784.
