State Senate may have been reactionary in its creation, but its scope is exciting, providing lengthy details of just about every notable labor v. management and radicals v. government conflict in the late 1880s to 1920. Absolutely essential for any serious understanding of the history of the American labor movement and 20th Century American radicalism. Jacob Belville given at the dedication of the Hatborough Monument on December 5, 1861 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, to commemorate the Revolutionary War "Battle Of The Crooked Billet," which took place May 1, 1778 when Brigadier General John Lacey’s American detachment was surprised at daybreak and put to flight by Col. Abercrombie’s British regulars and Major Simcoe’s Queen’s Rangers. Twenty-eight Americans were killed, many of them cruelly burned alive as they attempted to hide in haystacks and wheat fields of neighboring farms. Nice condition complete 2-volume set of the "History of Concord New Hampshire" - From the Original Grant in Seventeen Hundred and Twenty-Five to the Opening of the Twentieth Century. The set comes with its original, oversized color map (35" tall x 31" wide) titled "Commissioners Map of Concord New Hampshire" dated 1902. Complete in original binding except for the gigantic map which is available in full size color thick glossy paper professional reproduction ($25 extra if desired). Pagination: 583 pages, 22 plates, 4 maps, all blanks present. Includes fascinating pencil diagram of oil rig on back of map. Oil rig drawing titled "Sheffield Oil Company. Warren(?), Co., Pa." That pencil drawing is the only interior writing or ownership marking anywhere in the book. Condition is a mixed bag. Original half leather marbled boards show heavy wear and looks like they were professionally rehinged in the distant past. Binding is sound. Pages show moderate to heavy toning and foxing. Some plates have weird 'dot' foxing I have never seen elsewhere (see scan). Marbled endpapers. A nice well maintained copy suitable for reading and research with a cool drawing.
