Dedicated and signed by the author to Fairs Nimr (1856 - 1951). Contains 69 photographic pl. Dr. Faris Nimr was a Lebanese-Egyptian Christian intellectual, publisher, and journalist who played an important role in popularizing modern science and Western ideas in the Arab East in the late nineteenth century. He graduated from the Syrian Protestant School in Beirut, where he met his future colleague, Sarruf College. Together they published the scientific periodical al-Mqtataf (Choice selections), and upon moving to Cairo, they published the newspaper al-Mukattam, which had a very wide circulation.
