Sobre este artículo
The First UK printing published by Faber and Faber Ltd, London in 1952. The BOOK is in near Fine condition in the publisher's original tan cloth, stamped in gilt on crimson panel at the spine. A hint of pushing at the spine tips and very light offsetting to the blank end-papers. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Near Fine condition with just a little creasing at the spine ends, a few small nicks and light toning to the spine and edges. The wrapper looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. All nine of the author's black and white illustrations are present in the text. Roger Senhouse's personal copy with his bookplate to the front pastedown. Roger Senhouse was an English publisher and translator, and a peripheral member of the 'Bloomsbury Group' of writers, intellectuals, and artists. The private letters of writer and Bloomsbury Group member Lytton Strachey reveal that Senhouse was his (last) lover (Archival Material at Leeds University Library). In 1935, Senhouse became co-owner with Fredric Warburg of the publishing house which became 'Secker & Warburg', rescuing it from receivership. Senhouse translated several works by French novelist Colette, and collaborated on a translation of 'The Blood of Others' by Simone de Beauvoir - these were published by Secker, along with major works of the era including George Orwell's 'Nineteen Eighty-Four' and 'Animal Farm'. Loosely inserted is a 5 page article entitled 'David Jones' by Harman Grisewood, which is an extract taken from the Journal 'Blackfriars Monthly Review' 1951'. A wonderful association copy. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
