Sobre este artículo

Edinburgh: Printed by Neill and Company, 1890. AUTHOR’S OWN COPY, 3 vols. bound as 1, small 4to, pp. 14; 16; 15, [1] (including frontispiece). Contemporary half calf, marbled boards, black morocco label, top edge gilt. Some scattered soiling, one leaf creased. A little rubbed. Armorial bookplate of Hugh W. Young of Burghead to rear pastedown, inscription to title-page of third pamphlet neatly crossed out. The author’s own copy of three short papers on archaeological findings in the Pictish site in Burghead, Moray. The second and third papers here are reprinted from the Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. Library Hub records just two copies, at NLS and Newcastle, both of which are the three pamphlets bound together as here, suggesting they were issued together despite the range of dates. Against this, the overwritten inscription to the title-page of ‘Further Excavations’ argues for its origin as a separate publication, with the illegible writing plausibly a presentation inscription that went unpresented. NLS notes the publication as one of 80 copies though there is no indication of that limitation here.

Sobre McNaughtan's Bookshop

Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association. We stock rare, antiquarian, and collectable books on all subjects, along with a substantial range of secondhand books for browsing. Our gallery space currently hosts Typewronger Books, offering new books and secondhand typewriters.
